Our response

Six Seasons Recovery is issuing this statement in response to the recent 7NEWS report concerning our facility and a former client.

We believe the report presents an incomplete picture of the circumstances and does not include important information relating to the client’s pre-admission process and medical requirements.

Our Commitment to Client Care

At Six Seasons Recovery, client safety, wellbeing, dignity and privacy are our highest priorities.

We have supported many clients and families through their recovery journeys, with an established track record of positive client experiences. Approximately 95% of clients who have provided feedback have reported being satisfied with their experience.

We remain committed to providing a safe, private, respectful and supportive recovery environment.

Important Medical Information Was Not Disclosed By Client

A critical point not adequately reflected in the 7NEWS report is that significant medical and mobility information was not disclosed to us during the pre-admission process.

Clients and families have a responsibility to provide accurate and complete information about relevant medical conditions, medications, mental health history, mobility requirements and other care needs.

Had this information been disclosed to us beforehand, we could have properly assessed whether Six Seasons Recovery was an appropriate environment or whether hospital or specialist clinical care was more suitable.

Six Seasons Recovery Is Not an Acute Hospital

Six Seasons Recovery is a private rehabilitation facility. We are not an emergency department, acute hospital or specialist psychiatric hospital.

Where a person’s medical or mental health needs exceed what a rehabilitation facility can safely provide, referral to an appropriate hospital or specialist service is the responsible course of action.

Client safety must always come first.

Was Six Seasons Ever Given an Opportunity to Address These Concerns?

We believe it is important to ask:

Did the client raise these concerns with Six Seasons Recovery during or after her stay? Did she make a written complaint, email, telephone call or request an investigation before approaching 7NEWS?

Based on our records, she did not.

Had these concerns been raised with us at the time, we would have taken them seriously, investigated them and taken appropriate action.

Instead, Six Seasons Recovery was not given an opportunity to properly respond before these allegations were presented publicly.

Our Privacy Commitment Limits What We Can Say

We respect the privacy and confidentiality of every client.

We will not disclose private medical information simply to defend ourselves in the media. This means there are circumstances where we cannot publicly provide the full medical context, even when that context is highly relevant to the story being reported.

We believe protecting client confidentiality is more important than winning a public argument.

Our Record Speaks for Itself

One individual’s account should not define the experience of every person who has received care from Six Seasons Recovery.

Our strong level of client satisfaction, our ongoing commitment to care and the many clients and families who have trusted us demonstrate the broader picture.

We stand by our team, our processes and our commitment to client safety, privacy and quality recovery support.

We will continue to cooperate with relevant authorities and remain committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for clients who are appropriately suited to our programme.

Six Seasons Recovery’s Position Is Clear

  • Safety first.
  • Privacy always.
  • Full medical disclosure is essential.
  • Appropriate care for every client.
  • Respect and dignity for every person.
  • Continuous commitment to better recovery outcomes.
